(Cleveland, OH) WUAB. Beer drinkers of the Ohio City neighborhood can rejoice. 2015 is set to be a landmark year for the local brewer as many changes are coming to the Great Lakes Brewery in the upcoming months. It all started this winter with a rebranding of the logo and labels by Ontario artist Darren Booth who is primarily known for his work with Coca-Cola. In 2013, Great Lakes celebrated it’s 25th anniversary and has proved it’s inspiration on the historic neighborhood by prompting many other local restaurants and breweries to open their doors within close proximity of the 27 year old pub. That year also saw the launch of one of my Great Lakes Favs: Chillwave Double IPA (originally branded as Alchemy Hour IPA) so if you’re a fan of Double IPA’s like I am – pick up a 4 pack before it’s out of season. From its inception, the company has inspired many to jump on the “craft beer craze” wagon, to the more recent West 25th explosion of micro brews consisting of Market Garden, Bier Markt and Nano Brew. The fever has even spread west on Lorain where Paltform Brewery opened this last year and rumor has it that even more micro breweries are on the horizon.
As a current Ohio City resident, I truly appreciate a restaurant/brewer such as Great Lakes and the positive impact it has had on the surrounding city. Due to it’s nationwide popularity and growth Great Lakes has been a positive influence in the community, bringing back a much needed economy in a primarily sports emphasized town. From the eco friendly materials used for it’s production and packaging to giving back to the community by donating to local charities (where fundraisers can make requests here) Great Lakes demonstrates a modern and progressive way of thinking that should influence other local merchants and restaurants. With the Indian’s season opener right around the corner, there is no better place to stop in for a quick drink or pre game bite to eat. In the meantime you can pick up the 2015 Spring Variety Pack featuring: Truth, Justice and the American Ale, Lawn Seat Kolsch, High Striker Single and Holy Moses White Ale.
Be sure to ketch the 2015 Green tour this spring…
